Journal 5 - Lyric

In Wechsler’s (2007) article “Getting Serious about Eradicating Binge Drinking,” he publicizes colleges to pay more attention to the problem of binge drinking and provides verities of possible solutions.

As the author states in this article, “Doing research into actual behavior and then informing students about how many students actually bingegenerally fewer than binge drinker believecan help to reduce the behavior” (Wechsler, 21). Generally, I consider that this idea may have some positive effects for binge drinking problem; however, the influences may not as strong as the author concerns. It is possible that students do not believe the data. No matter whether students involve binge drinking or not, most of them are aware of the actual situation from the personal experience or heard from friends. Even though students are not suspicious of the data proposed by colleges, they likely ignore these information because there are a number of such massages proposed by universities.

There are another point proposed by the author that “college are civic communities, and all too frequently they are disrupted by the behavior of students who drink excessively” (Wechsler, 21). From my perspective, this method has better effects than the former one. Regardless of the importance of this problem, if this is related to the evaluation, students would pay more attention to this issue. There is no doubt that every student care about their grades and reputation in college. So making the connection between the binging drinking to the students; evaluation is truly a good way to solve this problem.

The author also points out, “All of the problem areas that I’ve cited cannot be attacked by college at once” (Wechsler, 23). According to the specific situations, colleges and universities should think deeper and find the most suitable solutions for their own.

Thank you for reading.

  1. Your comments are very detailed, and you have compared different kinds of menthods that author mentions. You also use three forms of quates in every paragraph. But maybe you forgot to suggest your own way to eradicate the binge drinking.
