In the article “Getting
Serious about Eradication Binge Drinking,” Wechsler talks about how to prevent
binge drinking from adolescents. Binge Drinking, indeed, is a serious problem
especially in college, because college students consider it as a way of relax
and having fun. Wechsler gives some ways to eradicate this phenomenon in his
article, for example: “Students who become drunk and disorderly should be made
to take responsibility for the messes that they have created.” But I doubt that
whether this punishment would be as effective as it seems like. Although some
people will feel regret about the mess after the hangovers, they will still
drink another time. Because many people will forget how hard it is to clean up
the mess when they are drinking. So in this way, this punishment would not be
an effective way to prevent binge drinking.
There could be other ways to stop this
sort of behavior such as penalty and taking courses. If anyone is caught binge
drinking, they should pay a certain amount of money and take educational
courses that teach them the negative influence of drinking. In this way, people
will be regret for the money they lose and the time they spend for the courses.
If they do not get drunk, they could use the money and the time to do things
they want to do.
Binge drinking should definitely be
stopped. Based on some research, drinking too much alcohol would cause damage
to the brain which will influence the intelligence and the ability of memory.
What’s more, getting drunk would cause serious problems, for the behavior
cannot be well controlled by our mind. It was reported that people hurt their
friends without awareness because of the influence of alcohol. Since binge
drinking has so many negative impact, of course, it should be stopped.
