Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering, which is a new field to combine engineering and medicine techniques, is exposing the issue that ethics for what the base of morel should be accepted for science development which has a huge benefit for human health. The problem about Biomedical Engineering ethics; whether the science test should be operated an animal and even people who have disease which cannot be cured with current technique, have been debated for hundreds of years which can be back to World War II.

On my perspective, I suggest that Biomedical Engineering should play an important role to enhance the human body. It is because that Biomedical Engineering can lead quality of peoples's life to a high level. Biomedical Engineering has more advantage to overcome disease. Especially Biomedical Imaging, which are a branch of Biomedical Engineering and an application of engineering methods to diagnose and visualize biological processes, has a gigantic contribution on diacrisis diease. For example, doctors can observe what happen to the inside body by using technique of Biomedical Imaging rather than dissecting the body and viewing directly which will add a huge painful and venture of infected virus to the patients. Meanwhile, the doctors who apply Biomedical Imaging to detect disease will make a definite diagnosis efficiently and exactly. There is no way around the fact that the time of painful of patients become shorter.

The restoration by Biomedical Engineering is not only on body but also on mind. It is because that the importance of Biomedical Engineering can never be exaggerated. In order to survive the cost of losing member of body is ineluctable after a destructive accident. The damage on mind cannot be cured by traditional medicine. But the biomaterials became the hope to stand up again for people whose legs were destroyed by car crash. We cannot imagine that how happy to the people who get back on their feet.

  1. Truly, the biomedical Engineering has may benefits for the human being including the disease overcoming, life improvement, etc. that you have mentioned above. However, do you think there would be some debatable issues and potential problems about them? The replacement of partial body may cause some moral and ethical questions to the whole society. What is the boundary of it? Or what is the standards should be presented for the equal treating to these people?

  2. I agree with what you said above, and it is very interesting to talk about the advantage of biomedical engineering on mind. The medical engineering does give expect to those disabled people, but it is just the side effect of there research. People also become happy when they recover from diseases no matter how they get treated. So I think it is the advantage of all the medical research not only the biomedical engineering.
