Journal 3 Peng Zhou

Marcelo Gleiser’s article entitled “ Is an Identical Copy of You, You?” discusses if you are willing to die if you know there is a copy of you, and the author said no as she thought there is no perfect copy.

Would you let a copy of yourself live in your place?

Personally speaking, I would not let a copy of myself live in the world. I can never image how’s the life will be if there is two of me. But I am sure it would definitely cause many problems.
On the one hand, it would change the life of myself. For example, the identical copy means the copy knows everything of mine, and even include some secret. I couldn’t make sure the copy can keep the secret for me. And it might cause even more serious problems. For example, if the one of you commit a crime, it is difficult to figure out who did it as you two have the same fingerprints and DNA.
On the other hand, it would also change the life of people surrounding us. My mom would get confused which one is me, and how could she get alone with the copy. And I don’t want to see that my girlfriend date with other people even if it is the copy of me.

What’s more, just as some movies show that copies may want to kill the original one, so that he can be the unique one in the world. So there are a lot of ethical and moral problems of the copy of human. Such as the relation between the copy and the original one, and dose the copy one should have the same right as the original one is worth debating.

  2. Wow. I found we have two different opinions concerning the relationship of the copy and original person. I think the copy cannot copy your memory and experience because brain cells grown up with your life. The copy only can got the DNA information from you and have identical body and face with you.
